Discover Vamos on foot

Vamos is a semi mountainous village, 250m above sea level, surrounded by cultivated and wild nature. In the traditional village of Vamos, visitors have the opportunity to see the street made of stone, the old neighborhood, the chapel of the Virgin Mary dating from the 13th century and the Karidi Monastery, with its astonishing oil mill and its 12 vaults.

Also, you can still find a lot of indigenous cypress trees, although many of them have disappeared since the time of the Venetians, who used the trees to build ships. The cypress trees were also used for the construction of traditional houses (like those in Vamos), particularly the roofs. Today in these forests you can find various wild flowers and wildlife such as rabbits, badgers and buzzards. In winter these areas are very popular with hunters.

                             Vamos is JAZZ  every July

«Jazz in July» is one of the biggest jazz festivals in Greece and the only one in Crete since 2012. The 7th «Jazz in July festival» takes place this summer in an amazing venue over the green hills of Vamos and the unique scenery of Apokoronas, Chania…landscapes that will remind you the beauty of Tuscany, Florence.

For 8 days during July, we are expected to «travel» to unexpected jazz improvisation paths of high aesthetics, experimentation and interaction from a number of musical shapes.
